Benefits of Garlic:

Garlic is a bulbous perennial herb native to central Asia. Its name comes from the Latin word “Allium” meaning “garlic”. It is considered to be one of the oldest cultivated crops known to man. In ancient times, garlic was used as a medicine and food supplement. Today, garlic is still widely consumed around the globe. It is believed that garlic contains many medicinal properties including anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory effects.

1. Anti-Bacterial Properties

The antibacterial properties of garlic have been proven to help prevent bacterial infections. Bacteria are responsible for causing illnesses ranging from colds to stomach ulcers. Garlic is able to kill bacteria due to its high sulfur content. Sulfur is an essential mineral for human cells and is present in garlic at levels that exceed those found in any other food.

2. Antiviral Properties

In addition to its antibacterial properties, garlic has antiviral properties. Viruses cause illness in humans and animals. These viruses are often spread through contact with infected bodily fluids. Garlic is effective in preventing viral infection because it helps destroy harmful viruses before they infect the body.

3. Anti-Fungal Properties

Many people suffer from fungal infections in their homes and offices. Fungi are microscopic organisms that live in moist environments. Many fungi can cause serious health problems if left untreated. Garlic is highly effective in fighting fungus because it contains compounds called thiosulphinates. Thiosulphinates are sulfur containing chemicals that inhibit the growth of fungi.

4. Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Inflammation occurs when the immune system overreacts to foreign substances. Inflammation causes redness, swelling, pain, and fever. It is caused by chemical reactions between white blood cells and certain molecules released by injured cells. Garlic has been shown to reduce inflammation in the body. Studies show that garlic reduces the production of inflammatory chemicals in the body.

5. Cancer Prevention

Cancer is a disease where abnormal cells divide uncontrollably. There are two types of cancer; malignant (cancerous) and benign (non-cancerous). Malignant cancers are more dangerous than benign ones. They tend to spread throughout the body faster and are harder to treat. Garlic has been proven to slow down the growth of cancerous tumors in laboratory studies.

6. Heart Health

Heart disease is the number 1 killer in America today. High cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes are some of the leading causes of heart disease. Garlic has been studied extensively for its effect on cardiovascular health. One study showed that garlic lowers bad cholesterol while increasing good cholesterol. Another study showed that garlic may lower blood pressure.

Give it a try and get addicted with it in no time. This chutney is made with very basic ingredients, which are easily available in kitchen.
